■Shiretoko Stargazing Meeting 2026
The "Shiretoko Stargazing Meeting 2026" was held in Shiretoko, a World Natural Heritage site. For two nights only, the Shiretoko Five Lakes elevated wooden path, which is usually closed at night, was specially opened, allowing participants to enjoy the magnificent scenery overlooking the Shiretoko mountain range and the beautiful starry sky. This article reports on the spectacular views created by Shiretoko's unique nature and the starry sky, the event itself, and the special night experienced by the participants, with abundant photographs.

Tekapo, in the South Island of New Zealand, is known as one of the world's best stargazing spots. Under clear skies and excellent observation conditions, the beautiful southern night sky, which cannot be seen in Japan, unfolds. This article features a collection of exquisite works photographed by nature photographer Junichi Yamamoto on site. Through works photographed using Canon's fisheye zoom lens RF7-14mm F2.8 L FISHEYE STM and large-aperture prime lens RF14mm F1.4 L VCM, we introduce the charm of the southern night sky and the capabilities of the latest RF lenses.
■Total Solar Eclipse on August 12: How to Avoid Failure / Akio Nakanishi
On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will cross Greenland, Iceland, Spain, and other regions. With a long duration of totality and favorable observation conditions, this is a highly anticipated eclipse for which many Japanese observers are planning expeditions. However, photographing a total solar eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Prior planning and thorough rehearsals, including exposure settings, equipment preparation, and shooting sequence, greatly determine success or failure. In this article, astronomical photographer Akio Nakanishi, who has photographed numerous eclipses, explains common pitfalls and countermeasures based on his own experience, and provides practical shooting know-how useful on site.
