This book provides a thorough explanation of how to care for geckos, which are popular these days for their attractive body colors, patterns, and shapes. Useful information for care, such as the environment in which they should be kept, what they should be fed, and how to handle them, is explained in an easy-to-understand manner using diagrams and an abundance of photos and illustrations. Tokay geckos and egg-tailed geckos are typical species that have long been kept as pets. In recent years, the popularity of species such as the little gecko, the stone gecko, the flat-tailed gecko, and the emperor gecko has also increased, and breeding them has become a joy for experienced owners.

The living environments of geckos are classified into the following types: 1. nocturnal 2. nocturnal but prefers gentle light 3. nocturnal and terrestrial 4. nocturnal and terrestrial and lives in holes they dig themselves 5. nocturnal and lives both on the ground and in trees 6. diurnal and arboreal 7. diurnal but does not prefer strong light 8. diurnal and terrestrial 9. diurnal and active both on the ground and in trees, etc. Although they are the same species, the styles of their rearing environments are slightly different. Based on these, this book will broadly classify them into (1) arboreal and dry type (2) arboreal and moist type (3) semi-arboreal and terrestrial and dry type (4) semi-arboreal and terrestrial and moist type, and explain each rearing style.

In addition, the gecko encyclopedia uses plenty of photographs to explain the characteristics of each species.
The photographs were taken by Kawazoe Nobuhiro, a photographer who specializes in photographing one of the world's largest numbers of reptiles and amphibians, and is also the editor of this book.

This book excludes leopard geckos, which belong to the gecko family, because our company's "Complete Care Series" includes a book called "Complete Care of Leopard Geckos."
Geckos are classified into the class Reptilia, order Squamata, suborder Lacertilia, and infraorder Gekkoni. The superfamily Pycnonotidae includes the families Gekkonidae, Gekkonidae, and Pycnonotidae. The seven families included in the superfamily Gekkonidae are Gekkonidae, Gekkonidae, Pycnonotidae, and Gekkonidae.
