Sengoku Garden in Higashihiroshima City was created by Yamana Seizo, a doctor and landscape gardener who is the founder of the Yamana-kai Medical Corporation. Sengoku Garden is a large-scale rock garden of about 12,000 tsubo (the size of the Tokyo Dome) that can be enjoyed as it is walked through a corridor displaying famous stones, unusual stones and grouped stones from all over Japan. The garden is in the style of a feudal lord garden and is an unprecedented large-scale garden. It took Yamana Seizo a quarter of a century to build it, pouring all of his personal fortune into it, and he was involved in planning, designing, selecting and purchasing materials and construction himself. This book tells the story of his struggle to open the garden, and also conveys the charm of the garden in all four seasons through photographs. It also includes explanations of the main rocks in the garden.
