This book covers everything from basic knowledge such as the history, origins and types of Tsugaru Kogin embroidery to how to actually embroider it, including materials and tools, preparation and basic stitching techniques.
The book is structured to deepen your knowledge of Kogin embroidery from many angles, including its connection to the Mingei movement, interviews with people who preserve and pass on the traditions of Kogin embroidery, Modoko designs, and its relationship with Nanbu diamond embroidery.
This expanded and revised edition includes 10 new older works, new interview articles, and a revised timeline.
Among the sashiko traditions of the Tohoku region, the most famous is "Tsugaru Kogin embroidery" from Aomori Prefecture.
